For the series ACID TEST, Peter Hauser left his habitual environment to plunge into the earthly microcosmos. In an experimental expedition, he examined several crystallized acids with the aid of a microscope. By “flying” over peregrine sceneries, he captured frames of abstract landscapes with his camera, mounted onto the microscope. A selection of his discoveries makes up ACID TEST, where he explores his insights into a lateral world, invisible to the naked eye. The abstract and mysterious, resulting in psychedelic/colourful compositions, offer the viewer a perspective to an alternative cosmos far from seizable relations to our known world. The work is at once poetic and scientific, abstract and organic.
The term ACID TEST originates from the Gold Rush era of 19th Century North America. It describes a technique to specify the content of gold in minerals. The term had been later coined in the American West Coast in the mid 1960’s when the consumption of LSD (acid) was a significant part of popular culture.
