Peter Hauser’s 21 Sunsets is a series of luminograms created in the darkroom in the form of abstract variations of a sunset. The motif differs in each case only through nuances of colour and colour combinations, while the composition always remains the same. The various colour combinations evoke a plethora of moods and emotions in the viewer, but the event always remains the same: a sunset. Every sunset heralds the end of a day. At the same time, every sunset delivers hope of a new day, another chance, another outcome. Peter Hauser‘s sunsets can also be interpreted as an allegory for the current state of the world; a time in which great changes are taking place, be it conflicts, resource and food shortages or climate change. Thus, the sunsets can also be perceived as a last hope, the last ray of light before an impending darkness.
